How the paper is weighted

Global Financial Compliance is a standalone Level 3 Award; add a CISI regulatory exam and it becomes the Level 3 Certificate. Its five elements are weighted more closely than on any other paper we cover.

ElementQuestions
1. The International Regulatory Environment20
2. The Compliance Function24
3. Managing the Risk of Financial Crime20
4. Ethics, Integrity and Fairness19
5. Governance, Risk Management and Compliance17
Total100

The Compliance Function is the heaviest at 24 marks, then The International Regulatory Environment and Managing the Risk of Financial Crime at 20 each, Ethics, Integrity and Fairness at nineteen and Governance, Risk Management and Compliance at seventeen. There is no small element to write off here: the lightest is still 17% of the paper.

For the cleanest rehearsal, set aside the full 120 minutes, avoid notes and answer every question. There is no negative marking on the real paper, so a guess is always better than a blank. The mock hides feedback until submission and warns you before handing in a paper with blanks.

Sit the paper in one go if you can. Answers and explanations stay hidden until you submit, so the score is a more useful rehearsal than an instant-feedback quiz.

Where the marks go on this paper

The density of named legislation in the first element is the commonest problem. GDPR, MiFID II and MiFIR, MAR, EMIR, PSD2, Sarbanes-Oxley, CSDR, the UK Bribery Act, the FCPA, FATCA and the Common Reporting Standard all appear within a few pages, and the exam tests what each one does and to whom it applies extra-territorially, not just the name.

The Compliance Function is 24 marks and the most operational element on the paper: the Basel Committee principles, the compliance monitoring programme, the three lines of defence, outsourcing, and how a compliance function handles the regulator relationship. Working in compliance helps here, but only if you know the framework names as well as the practice.

Managing the Risk of Financial Crime is twenty marks and turns on precision. Placement, layering and integration sound simple until a question describes a transaction and asks which stage it is. Layering is the one candidates under-prepare, because it looks most like ordinary client activity.

Ethics is nineteen marks and it is easy to confuse a code of ethics with a code of conduct, or the CISI Code of Conduct with the CFA Institute Code of Ethics. The exam will ask you to tell named codes apart.

How to use your result

Treat 70% as a practice threshold, not a readiness promise. A stronger signal is a run of timed scores above the threshold with no element repeatedly falling behind. With the weightings this close, an even breakdown is the goal rather than a strong average. A candidate who masters financial crime and ethics but skims governance can still fail on a shortfall in the seventeen-mark element.

Use the answer review to understand each miss, then revisit the relevant part of the Global Financial Compliance exam guide. To drill a single topic rather than sit a whole paper, start with the free Global Financial Compliance practice questions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Global Financial Compliance mock exam really free?

Yes. All 100 questions are free, with no account, email address or card required. Submit and you get a weighted score, a five-element breakdown and an explanation for every answer.

Does this mock match the real GFC exam format?

It uses 100 questions, a 120-minute timer, a 70% practice threshold and the published weightings across the five syllabus elements. The questions are original PasskeyPrep practice material, not the CISI examination platform or official exam questions.

Is Global Financial Compliance an Award or a Certificate?

On its own the exam earns the standalone Level 3 Award. Add a CISI regulatory exam and you complete the Level 3 Certificate in Global Financial Compliance.

Which element should I revise most?

The Compliance Function at 24 marks. That said, the five elements run from seventeen to 24 questions, so none of them is safe to skip.
