Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about the CISI exam and how PasskeyPrep helps you prepare.

About the CISI Exams

Which CISI exams does PasskeyPrep cover?

Fourteen exams. The Introduction to Securities & Investment Level 3 Award; all three Level 3 Capital Markets Programme papers: UK Financial Regulation, Securities and Derivatives; Global Securities Operations, a technical unit of the Investment Operations Certificate; four Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma units: Investment, Risk & Taxation, Financial Planning & Advice, UK Regulation & Professional Integrity and Securities; plus the Level 3 Risk in Financial Services, Global Financial Compliance and Combating Financial Crime award exams. PasskeyPrep does not cover the full CISI catalogue. One account covers all fourteen supported exams.

What are the exam formats?

All are computer-based multiple choice with a 70% pass mark. Intro to Securities & Investment is 50 questions in 60 minutes across 11 elements. UK Financial Regulation is 75 questions in 90 minutes across 4 elements. Securities and Derivatives are each 100 questions in 120 minutes across 9 elements. Risk in Financial Services and Global Financial Compliance are each 100 questions in 120 minutes. Each syllabus element carries a fixed question weighting, which PasskeyPrep mocks replicate exactly.

How hard is the exam?

These exams are difficult to prepare for by reading alone because the questions test precise recall and application under time pressure. Common stumbling blocks include derivatives pricing, bond yield calculations, accounting ratios and the regulatory framework. Use repeated practice and full timed mocks to find gaps; no study tool can promise an individual result.

How much do the CISI exams cost?

Exam fees are set by CISI and vary by paper and membership status. Check the CISI website for current pricing. Many employers cover exam fees for their staff. PasskeyPrep is a separate study tool and is not affiliated with CISI.

Is this the same as the CISI workbook?

No. PasskeyPrep is a practice and revision tool, not a replacement for the official CISI study material. We recommend using the official workbook for your paper for initial learning, and PasskeyPrep for active revision, practice questions, and mock exams. The two work well together.

Using PasskeyPrep

How does PasskeyPrep help me prepare?

PasskeyPrep provides practice questions, realistic mock exams, and detailed study notes covering every syllabus element of your chosen exam. The system tracks your performance by topic so you know exactly where to focus your revision. Instead of passively reading, you are actively testing yourself, which research consistently shows is the most effective way to learn.

What study modes are available?

There are four study modes. Practice Mode lets you pick an element and answer questions at your own pace with instant feedback. Guided Learning teaches the three Capital Markets Programme papers one topic at a time, animating each mechanism before it tests you on it. Mock Exam simulates your full paper with proper element weightings and timing. The Notes section covers every topic, and over 2,800 spaced-repetition flashcards drill key definitions and formulas.

Are the questions the same every time?

PasskeyPrep draws from a large bank of exam-style questions covering every syllabus element, so you practise broadly across the whole syllabus rather than drilling the same handful. Options are shuffled each time, so you are tested on understanding rather than memorising answer positions.

How are mock exams weighted?

Mock exams follow the same element weightings and timing as the corresponding CISI paper. For Intro S&I that means 50 questions in 60 minutes; for UK Financial Regulation 75 in 90 minutes; for Securities and Derivatives 100 in 120 minutes. Use results across several mocks to track progress rather than treating one score as a promise of your real result.

What happens when I get a question wrong?

You get immediate feedback showing the correct answer along with an explanation of why it is correct. In Practice Mode, you can also view a more detailed breakdown of the topic. At the end of each session, you can review all the questions you got wrong in one place.

How does the weak spot tracker work?

Every answer you give is tracked by syllabus element. The Analytics page shows your accuracy for each element sorted from weakest to strongest, along with how many questions you have attempted. This makes it obvious where you need to spend more time revising.

Account & Access

How much does PasskeyPrep cost?

You can start on the free plan: chapter 1 of every supported exam is open, with practice questions, study notes and flashcards, no card required. Paid access is one payment for 90 days from purchase: £59 for the paper you are sitting, or £89 for all fourteen supported CISI exams. Both unlock every chapter, the full question bank, full-length mocks, and the weak spot tracker. No subscription and nothing to cancel. If you buy one paper and later want the rest, the upgrade is £30, or free if a friend you refer buys a pass.

Can I try PasskeyPrep before paying?

Yes, properly. Create a free account and chapter 1 of every supported exam is yours: practice questions, study notes and flashcards, with your progress tracked. There is also a free sample mock on the website that needs no account at all. If you like what you see, a paid pass unlocks everything else, from £59.

Do I need to create an account?

Yes, an account is required so that your progress, stats, and weak spots can be tracked across sessions. Signing up takes about 10 seconds with just an email and password.

Can I use PasskeyPrep on my phone?

PasskeyPrep works on mobile browsers, but it is designed primarily for desktop and laptop use. Most candidates study on a larger screen, and the mock exam experience is better on a full-sized display. That said, Practice Mode and flashcards work perfectly fine on mobile for revision on the go.

Content & Quality

How accurate are the questions?

All questions are written to reflect the official CISI syllabus for each exam and are reviewed against the current edition of the official workbooks. They follow the same multiple choice format with four options and one correct answer. The content references current UK financial regulation, tax thresholds, and market conventions, and where the law has recently changed ahead of the workbook we flag both. PasskeyPrep is an independent study tool and questions are not sourced from CISI.

Do the study notes cover everything I need?

The notes cover every syllabus element of all fourteen supported exams in detail, including key definitions, formulas, exam tips, and common traps. They are designed as revision material to complement the official CISI workbooks, not replace them. Each section focuses on the points most likely to be tested.

Are regulatory references up to date?

The content reflects UK financial regulation as of 2026, including the FCA handbook, SM&CR, Money Laundering Regulations 2017, and the current FSCS compensation limits (£120,000 for deposits since December 2025). Where a workbook edition lags a recent change, our explanations flag both figures. We update the material when significant regulatory changes occur.
